What I can see
This contemporary apartment building is located in Koukaki area, and its white façade works as a reflector in the strong summer sun. This way, the interior of the building remains cool. The linearity of the façade’s openings is reminiscent of the neighbouring National Museum of Contemporary Art (formerly the Fix factory) and the difference in the openings’ height is related to the different view of the city from each opening. The balconies act as volumes that contrast with the linearity of the openings. The windows are coloured, which during the night and evening hours give a view of the city (from the inside) and a view of the building (from the outside), different from the views seen during the day.
What I can't see
The ambition of the architects (KLab Architecture) is to create a new trend in the facades of apartment buildings, which maintain the typological elements of the architecture of the Acropolis Museum and National Museum of Contemporary Art, but also apply new architectural trends. The building was designed with the goal of being accessible to people of all incomes and to allow for maximum social interaction. At the back of the building there are architectural elements of the 1960s, 1970s (most buildings in Koukaki were built then) or earlier decades, such as the cylindrical staircase. Other similar elements are found in the interior of the building, such as marble and mosaic.
