What I can see

If we look at the floor plan of this building, it is cruciform, which is why its tripartite facades look as if their central part is in projection. It is a symmetrical three-storey neoclassical building, which was designed by Ernst Ziller.

What I can't see

The Greek state donated the plot to the Austrian Archaeological Institute for the construction of its building. After the war and until 2003, it also housed the Austrian embassy. The institute studies the cultural heritage of Greece, which is an integral part of the European cultural heritage. It carries out research, excavations, thematic events, summer schools, supports Austrian students and researchers in Greece, but also offers other forms of administrative support, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture. It also collaborates with other foreign institutes in Athens and recently published the online magazine “Arete. Publications of the OeAI in Athens”, which covers a time span from prehistoric antiquity to the Byzantine period. The institute also has a guesthouse and a library.
