What I can see

Of the northern districts of Athens, Chalandri has a reputation as a hot spot for food, coffee, shopping and nightlife. A little further west and a straight line of approximately 8.5km north of the centre of Athens, is Neo (New) Iraklio, a popular area among young people for the same reasons. Most shops are located around the central square with the characteristic amphitheater and fountain, while the surrounding streets complete a mosaic of commercial stores, fast food, cocktail bars, resto bars, international cuisine, cafes, pastry shops, restaurants, beer halls, bakeries and many other services such as banks and public services.

What I can't see

Here was located the ancient town Ifistiadae and there was a sanctuary of Hercules, from which the name of the district probably derives. In the years of king Otto, Paleo (Old) Iraklio was built, where the Bavarian military members lived. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe, refugees settled and the population multiplied. Most of them worked in the lignite mines of the area and Neo Iraklio was an important nucleus of the National Resistance against the German Occupation in World War II.
