What I can see

The Textile Factory of the Young Women’s Education Association is a historical site and is located within a building complex of the 19th century. It is not just an exhibition space, but a fully active workshop. Exhibits are rare, as is the collection of pre-industrial textile tools. Among the looms, fabrics, threads, tools and many other items, we can admire the oldest loom in Europe, on which, up to 6 people can work. The wrap and cloth beams, come from a ship’s mast. The difference in the windows’ height on the long sides of the hall is also interesting, because it makes the most of natural lighting and heating.

What I can't see

It was founded as a Women’s Association for Women’s Education. Its purpose was the education and employment of women in need and it won many awards in Greece and abroad. The handicraft workshop operated first and the departments of tapestry, tailoring, lace, silk and cotton fabrics were later developed. During the 19th century, nurses were trained here and the Staff Pension Fund, the Middle Class School and the Free Studies Workshop were established.
