The house and workshop of the painter George Gounaropoulos is today a museum dedicated to him. The permanent collection is housed there, which includes personal belongings and many of his works, namely over 40 oil paintings and drawings. The “Centre for Arts and Culture” hosts periodic exhibitions and holds events, seminars, lectures and educational programs for children of various ages. Gounaropoulos managed to combine elements of Greek culture with cubism and realism, as he himself experienced them in Paris during the interwar period.
Gounaropoulos was one of the leading figures of the Greek modern movement, and his house – along with his workshop – became property of the municipality of Zografou. By converting them into a museum, the artist’s work is showcased and promoted.
