The sculptor Nikolaos Georgantis created the marble bust of Dimitrios Kambouroglou, who rendered him realistically, in a kind and warm attitude. The bust rests on books, thus symbolizing Kambouroglou’s love for knowledge. The bust’s base is also made of marble.
Dimitrios Kambouroglou (1852-1942) was a great lover of the science of history and was also a historiographer of Athens, something for which he acquired the nickname “Athenographer”. His research on Athens of the Ottoman period is a valuable source of historical and folklore information to this day. Kambouroglou was also a lawyer, poet, writer and member of the Academy of Athens. His bust was erected at the initiative of the Athenian Union.
