What I can see
The bronze bust of Angelos Sikelianos, is a work of Thanassis Apartis and rests on a marble base and on a low pedestal. The name and the dates of birth and death of Sikelianos are written on its front side. This particular bust is not the initial one. The original bust was designed as early as 1929, but was lost. We also see one of the many examples of problematic and hasty placement of sculptures in the city, which shows a lack of study and planning.
What I can't see
The 5-time Nobel Prize in Literature candidate Angelos Sikelianos (1884-1951) was a leading poet and novel writer and his works are governed by great linguistic richness and lyricism. His wife was the American Eva Palmer and together they founded the “Delphic Idea”, i.e. the peoples’ artistic union through performances and other events and for which Sikelianos was awarded in 1929 with the silver medal of the Academy of Athens. He had been intellectually active against fascism and Nazism, influencing intellectuals from all over the world, with the highlight being the call for spiritual resistance against Nazism in the eulogy he delivered at the funeral of the poet Kostis Palamas.
