The wreaths symbolize the continents, the olive branches the hope for peace and the leaves the flags of the countries that have taken part in the Olympic Games. It is placed on a pyramidal granite base. The inscriptions explain the symbolism, include the wish for a more peaceful and humane future, the name of the then mayor and the name of the sculptor.
