This apartment building is an example of a transition from eclecticism to simpler architectural forms. Here, we see the erckers (enclosed balconies in projection) and the false pilasters as eclectic elements, but the lack of intense decorative motifs shows the architect’s tendency towards neo-academic eclecticism, with Art Nouveau influences also being evident.
The architect Vassilios Tsagris is considered one of the pillars of the architectural order transition in Greece. He was widely criticized for his bold design at the time, but he laid the foundations for the interwar modernism of which Athens is internationally proud.
