The architect Vassilios Tsagris was an exponent of a neo-academic eclecticism, which is clearly visible οn this building. Art Nouveau influences are also evident, as well as the influences of the Viennese school of Otto Wagner.
It was a period when architects were hesitantly leaving behind older architectural trends, in order to introduce modernist ones. This hesitation is apparent here, as the principles of neoclassicism (e.g. symmetry) are the foundation of the building’s architecture.
