The Church of Agios Nikolaos Ptochokomiou is a cruciform domed church with remarkable proportions.

The building of the Ptochokomio (poorhouse in Greek) no longer exists, but the church that was located in the inner enclosure has survived. It was designed by Panagiotis Kalkos, it is a domed, four-columned, cruciform church of neo-Byzantine architecture, with excellent proportions, visible adobe masonry and brick decoration.
The Poorhouse building was demolished and the land was purchased by the Venizelos family to build their mansion, which is located at current 2- 4 Karaoli and Dimitriou Street. It now houses the United Kingdom’s embassy residence.

1876 It was built at the same time with the poorhouse. The donation of Andreas Syngros also contributed significantly to the completion of the entire project.
