What I can see

The “Pushkin” Institute of Russian Language and Literature aims to teach Russian, spread Russian culture and develop Greek-Russian relations. It also grants scholarships to students, organizes cultural events in Greece and Russia, is a member of the Hellenic-Russian Chamber and was a sponsor of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. The name of the institute comes from the national poet of Russia Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. Its library has more than 18,000 book titles, part of which was donated by the founder of the institute Ioannis Giannikos and also at Russian and Greek diplomats, politicians and other private individuals’ expense.

What I can't see

The headquarters of the institute are located in Moscow. Until the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it numbered 140 branches in Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. After the dissolution of the USSR, these annexes were difficult to maintain. The Pushkin Institute of Athens was founded after the dissolution of the USSR as an independent private institute and a branch of the Moscow Pushkin Institute. It is held under the auspices of the non-governmental Hellenic-Russian Cooperation Foundation and is a continuation of the Greek-Soviet Association, in which 120 prominent Greeks participated. Among them were Nikos Kazantzakis, Angelos Sikelianos, Emilios Veakis and many more.
