With the exception of the Polytechnic buildings, Stournari Street is full of apartment buildings, many of which are of the Interwar period. However, some have undergone significant alterations of their original physiognomy due to later interventions. A quite interesting example of an Interwar apartment building is located at the crossroad of 1 Zaimi and Stournari Streets (Michailidis apartment building). It is a rectangular building, with simple lines, elongated continuous window zones on Zaimi, and switching openings on Stournari Street. Moreover, there is a series of later blocks of flats, which have retained their original physique to a significant extent and create an interesting set of residences from post-war Greece.
A very important example of the deterioration of the Interwar buildings is at the crossroad of 24 Stournari and Bouboulinas Streets. A comparison of the building’s original form with today, as shown by photographs, renders it almost unrecognizable.
