In the Systematic Botany and Phytogeography laboratory of the Botany department on the 8th floor of the Biology building, an outstanding collection of over 30,000 dried plants is housed. The specimens date from 1800 to the present day and are divided into thematic sections and geographical area.
The collections come from Greek and European researchers of the Greek flora and the specimens are constantly enriched, as 2000-3000 specimens are added annually. The museum is in the list of botanical museums with botanical collections (Herbaria). The research role of the museum is remarkable, because, through these collections, full information is provided on the evolution of many species, comparisons with the past are made and it contributes to the identification of possible threatened species and changes in plant diversity. The digitization of the samples has begun for the convenience of students, but also for better access to them by the general public.
