What I can see

In a lesser known side of the city, centuries of history are hidden. This is where we can see the remains of a three-aisled basilica from the early Christian times, which is probably connected to the martyrdom and memory of Saint Nestor (student of Saint Demetrius) or the three martyr sisters, Agapi, Irene and Hionia. We can easily distinguish the sanctuary niche and the two building phases of the church. The north aisle was expanded during the second building phase.

What I can't see

It was discovered during the construction works of a building and part of the church is located in a small park right next to the plot. The exterior of the church bore a mosaic of Saint Nestor. Under the church, there was a hidden tunnel, probably from the time of the early Christians persecutions. Five other churches have been found in the area, one of which dates back to the first half of the 5th century AD. In the same area, are also found the Byzantine Fountain of Xirokrini (42 Didaskalissis Vasilikis Papathanasiou Street) and the over 300 year’s old mulberry tree, located in the courtyard of the 12th junior high school and 16th high school of Thessaloniki.
