What I can see
The church of St. Georgios Karytsi (or Kariki) is a domed basilica. Despite the tendency of the era towards neoclassicism, the parishioners forced the new church to be built in a Byzantine order. However, the uniformity of the Byzantine style is interrupted by the central marble pillar of the bell tower. The interior decoration is rich and has been created by Philadelfeos, Lembesis, Georgantas, Prosalendi, Spiliopoulos and Magiasis.
What I can't see
In this place, there was a medieval church which belonged to the Kariki or Karitsis family, but was demolished. The new church was rebuilt by the parishioners and was designed by Lysandros Kaftanzoglou. The Kariki family was an historic family of Athens, and included among its members Theophilos Karikis, who became a metropolitan of Athens in 1593 and died in 1597 as Patriarch of Constantinople (current Istanbul).
