What I can see

This is a multi-level square with 6 characteristic works of Giorgos Zongolopoulos, which were donated to the Municipality of Psychiko. The oldest sculpture is “Poseidon” (1957). Zongolopoulos’ sculptures have geometric features and most are made of stainless steel. “Alexander” (1988), however, a male figure of labour, is very different from the rest of the sculptures. His well-known works are also a) the “Column” (2001), a copy of which we see in Rizari Park, is made of stainless steel and has a lighting fiber running through it, b) the “Abstract Sculpture” (1966) which adorns the north entrance of International Exhibition Centre of Thessaloniki and probably represents Nike of Samothrace, c) the “Olympic Circles” (1991) and d) “Irana” (2001), which is the artist’s last work and its title is the Doric type of the name “Irene”.

What I can't see

Giorgos Zongolopoulos (1903-2004) was a restless artist and his work spans 8 decades. He belongs to the representatives of the 30’s generation; he was a pioneer and never afraid to experiment, which is why he had the nickname “eternal teenager”. He participated in hundreds of exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His works are found throughout Europe and his most famous creation within the Greek borders is the “Umbrellas” at the New Seafront of Thessaloniki. The Park is located a few metres away from the residence of the Zoggolopoulos couple. Although Giorgos Zongolopoulos is widely known, he created many works together with his wife and sculptor Eleni Paschalidou. In their residence, we can admire some of their original works and casts.
