On Isaias mansion, we can distinguish that late eclecticism is combined with the use of reinforced concrete, an innovative construction material at that time. Today, the building houses a well-known art space.
It was designed by the civil engineer Panagiotis Zizilas. It has impressive interior spaces, roof paintings and plaster decoration. It belonged to the luxurious buildings of the Patission Street axis. It is one of the mansions of the period during which the bourgeoisie moved into apartment buildings. Those days, the apartment buildings were also a status symbol, a reminder of the tenants’ social status and a way to separate themselves from the refugee settlements of shacks, one-storey and two-storey houses that were spreading rapidly throughout the city.
