What I can see

Another part of the city that is ideal for daytime and night outings is Karytsi Square and its surrounding roads, which lead to Syntagma and Ermou Street. Although Karytsi Square looks more like an L-shaped pedestrian street, it has always been called a square by Athenians. It is ideal for coffee in the mornings, an island of calm hidden away from the bustling city centre nearby. Its cafes and bars play mostly alternative music. Most are on the square, behind the Old Parliament (e.g. Anthimos Gazi Street) on Kolokotroni Street, inside the building arcades and narrow streets (e.g. Rombis and Thiseos Streets), on Leka Street and its arcades. Visitors who take time to explore the area will discover charming shops beyond Ermou Street towards Plaka. In the mornings, the narrow streets of the city’s commercial centre (Athenas, Ermou and Stadiou Streets) get very busy and cafes are filled with people who work in the area and are off for a quick lunch or coffee break. 

What I can't see

In recent years, cafes in the Commercial Triangle and particularly in and around the area of Syntagma and Karytsi Squares have thrived. This kind of entrepreneurship is an antidote to the economic crisis. Although business on Karytsi Square has been somewhat reduced in the past few years, the place is still one of the lively nightlife centres.
