It is one of the largest districts in northern Athens and the area around the metro station of the same name and towards Kifissias Avenue is considered to be its centre. Maroussi is known for the offices of large companies in the areas of Soros and Paradisos and its central market, which includes a network of pedestrian and low-traffic streets, where one can take a beautiful walk. Α similar experience is offered by the Syngrou Park and of course the Athens Olympic Complex (OAKA), which has been associated with top domestic and international events, such as the Olympic Games, world championships and concerts by Greek and foreign artists. The stores in Maroussi are of various kinds. One can find everything from clothing and footwear to high-tech stores and from cafes and restaurants to companies of various services.
It is located in the area of Athmonon or Athmonia, a settlement of Kekropida in ancient Attica. The name Maroussi or Amaroussio comes from the worship of Artemis from Amarynthos in Euboea during ancient times.
