What I can see

In the area of Vari and specifically on Varis-Koropiou Avenue/Evelpidon Avenue, is the “capital” of Athenian meat eating, with taverns that refer to the Greek culinary tradition and with an emphasis on good quality grilled meat. The strong lights, the bucolic aesthetic and their maximalist image often cause mixed feelings, but no one doubts about the quality of the dishes. In Vlachika taverns one can enjoy steaks, burgers, kokoretsi, kontosouvli, ribs, all kinds of Greek meats such as pork, beef, lamb, goat and chicken and many side vegetarian dishes and salads.

What I can't see

Vlachika is the name of one of the taverns and the whole area was named that way, thanks to the reputation that this tavern gained. The name comes from the Greek tribe of the Sarakatsans, who were called Vlachs because they owned sheep, even though the Vlachs are a different tribe. Despite the different taverns, their common characteristic is their bucolic identity, as they bring products of good quality and the atmosphere of Greek countryside to the city. The gastronomy of Greek province, however, is not limited only to the main dishes, but also expands to traditional sweets, which are either offered by the taverns or can be found in the area’s patisseries.
