This apartment building has obvious brutalist influences, as can be seen from the emphasis on the structural grid. In general, the elements of the building are quite different from each other, to which the visible materials (e.g. bricks and concrete) play a major role.
It is also known as the “professors’ apartment building”, as it was built by the Professors’ Building Association of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Each floor has two apartments of 175 sqm. It was designed by Christos Kouloukouris and Christos Tsilalis. It is considered an example of the so-called “new trend” and is one of the most important apartment buildings in the city. This is a rare case where architects tried to break free from the conventional standards of the contractors’ apartment buildings and give a new aesthetic approach.
