What I can see

The building of Charitable Men’s Brotherhood of Thessaloniki was designed by Xenophon Paionidis and is considered one of his best works. It is of the interwar period, when neoclassicism had already begun to be considered an outdated trend and modernism in architecture was flourishing. Despite the building’s modern lines, its neoclassical elements (e.g. symmetry, false pilasters) are quite evident and this was probably an attempt by Paionidis to make a connection between modern Greeks and antiquity and to bring people of Thessaloniki into contact with the principles of classicism.

What I can't see

During the German Occupation (WWII), the brotherhood provided food to children and young people. Today, the brotherhood is active beyond Greek borders in the fields of charity and culture. After the most recent renovation (2011), the building’s basement is an art gallery, while the 4th floor houses a museum and the library. This renovation won the 1st prize in the category of Interior Space and Exhibition Design 2018-2019.
