It is a marble bust of Captain Vardas on a marble base, a work of the distinguished sculptor Aliki Hatzis, and he is depicted strict, wearing a military uniform and a hat.
Georgios Tsontos (nickname: Captain Vardas) was a Cretan soldier and Macedonian fighter during the Balkan Wars. He was pro-royalist and fierce opponent of Venizelos. He was an officer in the Greek army and a Member of Parliament for Florina and Kastoria.
