Architects Morpho Papanikolaou and Rena Sakellaridou took advantage of the linear plot and organized the spaces so that they function autonomously within this linearity. It is a composition of various geometric volumes, with some common morphological elements. The exposed brick separates the linear building from the rest of the volumes. It is a multipurpose building, which -in addition to cultural activities- also covers other social needs, such as housing a kindergarten, an Open Care Centre for the Elderly, a library, offices and multi-purpose rooms.
The aim of the project was to make the Dendropotamos area less isolated and to reduce the social marginalization of its residents, many of whom are Roma. The goal was not achieved, not because the project was not implemented properly, but because such fragmentary policies prove to be insufficient and sometimes lead in opposite results. It is proven once again that the upgrading of an area and the lives of its residents is a multilayered issue, a matter of broader policy design and a core responsibility of a central government that is genuinely interested in eliminating social inequalities.
