What I can see

The industrial unit of the TITAN cement industry is a sample of the industrial architecture of the 1960s, which has not yet been appreciated as a remarkable example of its category; nevertheless, the use of uncoated concrete is very interesting, thus emphasizing the nature of this particular industry. The tower of the unit stands out in the area’s skyline and people of Thessaloniki always see it as a landmark that helps them orient themselves. A large part of the unit is now painted with spring natural landscapes in vivid colours. In addition to the thematic contrast (industry-nature), these murals go beyond the aesthetics’ scope and may be an effort to establish the unit as a landmark, giving some colour to the gray of the cement.

What I can't see

It belongs to the wider network of industrial facilities that developed around the Industrial Area, during the 1960s and 1970s. Despite the intense deindustrialization of the 2000s, this particular unit remained active. The TITAN cement factory was founded in 1902 in Eleusis and is one of the oldest in the country. At that time, it belonged to the new industrial sectors, in a period when the economy was still mainly based on traditional sectors and industrialization relied on cheap labour and high staff turnover rates.
