Museum of Modern Greek Culture- The Court of Miracles

What I can see

The building block surrounded by Areos, Αdrianou, Vrysakiou and Kladou Streets takes us back in time and specifically to the Athens of the Ottoman years and the early years of the Greek state. After Greek independence, public services and private houses were located here. Today, the complex of 18 buildings houses the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, which exhibits objects from the mid-18th century to the 1970s. Here is a two-storey building from the Othonian period (1835- 13 Kladou St.), the church of Agios Elisseos, the Chomatianos-Logothetis mansion, the foundations of the early Christian church of Agios Thomas, a part of the late Roman wall, an open-air theatre, a cafe and the museum’s shop. The museum complex also includes the Tzistaraki Mosque, in which we get to know the history of the museum, in building C1 the identity of the Greeks, in C2 the history of Plaka and the building block, in E the entertainment of the time and the collection of Shadow Theatre and 5 rooms are dedicated to the families of the neighbourhood.

What I can't see

The central area of the building block was called Kladou Square, after the name of a resident. Lord Elgin was a guest of Logothetis and is said to have packed the Parthenon sculptures here to transport them to London. The neighbourhood is also called the Court of Miracles, inspired by the homonymous play by Iakovos Kampanelis.
