What I can see
The Goethe Institute in Athens was the first annex of the Institute with headquarters in Munich. It hosts many cultural and scientific events and seminars. It also provides accessibility to 16,000 information media. The idea of its recent renovation was based on the interpretation of Goethe’s colour theory.
What I can't see
The Institute’s mission is to promote Hellenic and German cooperation and to teach the German language. During the junta, it was a place of freedom for Greek intellectuals. On this location, prior to the construction of the Goethe Institute building, the German club “Philadelphia” was here, a “centre” for the German community of Athens. When the foundations were laid, celebrations were attended by German inhabitants from around the city.
