The archaeological institute of Denmark in neoclassical buildings in Plaka.
Modern and Contemporary era (1821 - )
The initial building was built at the beginning of the 20th century.
1992 The institute was founded and it was inaugurated a year later, on the occasion of Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. In the following years, the adjacent buildings were also purchased.

What I can see
The Danish Institute is housed in a set of buildings and its purpose is the research and promotion of Greek and Mediterranean culture, through archaeology, language, history, literature, visual arts and cultural traditions. It also organizes concerts, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, courses and accepts researchers and students. The institute’s main building is neoclassical with a simple facade and an ornate balcony.
What I can't see
It operates under the supervision of the Danish Ministry of Culture and is recognized as an archaeological school by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Therefore, Danish archaeologists have permission to conduct excavations in Greece.
