What I can see

Crammed into a railing next to a playground in Agiou Panteleimonos Square, is a one-meter-tall marble bust of a beggar. The work by Loukas Doukas is placed on a marble pedestal and base. The beggar is depicted hunched, with his arms bent and placed on his legs and his palms facing upwards, begging for charity. It is a realistic sculpture with an abstract outline, a characteristic of Doukas’ works.

What I can't see

It was exhibited in 1918 at the French Institute exhibition, but we do not know when and how it came into the ownership of the Municipality of Athens. The sculpture has been vandalized countless times (breakages, rough repairs, pollution, graffiti) and for this reason it was removed, preserved and is now housed in an enclosed space, while a copy has been placed at the original location.
