The Pavlidis factory is the only remaining factory which operates in the city centre and is housed in a 19th-century building with modern additions. The old buildings are from the first industrial period (around 1890) with classicist elements (e.g. simple building mass, accented pillars, arched endings of openings, simple Doric lines, crowning with statues).
This place housed the – by now more than a century old – family-run chocolate business of Spyridon Pavlidis. Although it has been bought in recent decades by an international investment group, potentially influencing the chocolate’s quality, the Pavlidis chocolate business is still famous for its dark chocolate, wrapped in an equally old and timeless blue wrapper, depicting the Acropolis as well as medals which the company has been winning since even the very first years of operation.
