What I can see
The Emporikon hotel has a ground floor, a mezzanine, 2 floors and an attic. The facade has differences in each floor. The first and the second floor are decorated with floral themes, many art nouveau elements, columns and small pillars with capitals of Corinthian order. The mezzanine’s openings are simpler. The entrance on the ground floor stands out thanks to the Corinthian columns and the arched part of the sunshade.
What I can't see
It was one of the first art nouveau buildings in the city and was abandoned for many decades. On the first floor, there was a balcony supported by the mezzanine’s Atlases. The Atlases were stolen and the balcony collapsed. Nevertheless, the architectural office “AREA, Architecture Research Athens” carried out an exemplary restoration. The interior contemporary decoration respects the original decoration (e.g. ceiling paintings), the original typology and architecture, using room dividers of a certain height, so as not to lose the sense of spaciousness that existed in the past. In addition, the internal wooden staircase is preserved.
