The 496-apartment complex of the Workers’ Housing Organization (OEK), like other similar complexes of the organization, were designed as miniatures of an ideal modern city, with organized structure, geometric philosophy, many public spaces (e.g. squares) and public facilities (e.g. schools, playgrounds). No plan has ever been fully implemented. In this case, the assembly hall was converted into a kindergarten, shops into a daycare centre and there have been modifications to the street plan. The buildings follow the classic typology of OEK housing, with simple lines and small and functional spaces. The small spaces, however, are also the reason why many residents have violated urban planning by enclosing semi-outdoor spaces.
This location, as is the case with other labour houses, was chosen based on the availability of land under the jurisdiction of the OEK and not according to any specific urban planning. The first residents were families of workers, refugees that lived in sheds and Roma.
