What I can see

The library is housed in a contemporary building with the extensive use of glass for natural lighting consisting mainly of vertical volumes. Borrowing and reading rooms are not separate. Newspaper archives are located in the basement, on the ground floor, the children’s library, the literature and entertainment section can be found, on the second floor the lecture hall, on the third the new editions, sciences and arts, on the fourth the old collection of rare books and on the fifth journals are kept (9,827 volumes, 1,817 titles). Finally, the eighth floor offers a space for events.

What I can't see

When founded, the library had about 2,500 books. Today, it has over 31,000 books, all Government Gazettes since 1945, all political newspapers since 1974, 116 rare books, journals, an electronic library and audio-visual material. The purpose of the library is to give the public access to and foster the appreciation of books and to advance research related to the geographical area. The transfer to the new building of the library started with a donation of Georgios Vafopoulos.
