What I can see
The spaces of the university are divided into “functional levels”, which are related to each other in such a way that there are both a single and a bidirectional functionality of the spaces. The central hall is a geographical continuation of the street, making the building an active part of the city. The amphitheatres are developed around the hall, ie areas of general knowledge, while on the upper floors smaller amphitheaters, laboratories, auxiliary spaces and departments are developed, so the knowledge is specialized. The library and the foreign language laboratory are developed both vertically and horizontally and constitute the backbone of the building.
What I can't see
The work of the architect Giorgos Kyros was completed 20 years after the announcement of the architectural competition. The original study had grand intentions, but times changed and gradually the “drama” of the building wore out, making it more “unimaginative”. The University of Macedonia consists of 4 faculties (Economics and Regional Studies, School of Information Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Social, Human Sciences and Arts) and 8 departments. It cooperates with 39 universities from around the world and participates in 11 international organizations.
