What I can see
Here is the monument situated that is dedicated to the people who were executed by the Nazi occupying forces. They arrested a total of 1200 people, 120 of which were executed on spot and the rest were transferred to the camp of Haidari. 600 of them were sent to German concentration camps. Only very few returned. The neighbourhood was subsequently burned.
What I can't see
At the end of the Nazi occupation, the Germans with their Greek collaborators, terrorised neighbourhoods by establishing “roadblocks” and surrounding them to arrest and execute people. The neighbourhoods were mostly of the lower classes and had a partisan profile. Dourgouti belongs to the martyr districts of Athens along with Kokkinia, Nikaia, Kallithea and Kaissariani.
