It is an impressive and ornate fountain that harks back to the Rococo of the early 20th century. This sculptural composition represents children, fish and shells and is richly decorated. It has been vandalized many times with spray paint and has also been mutilated.
It is believed to be a work by Thomas Thomopoulos (1873-1937), purchased by the municipality of Athens and moved to the square decades after his death. Its original location was in the Thymarakia area. Similar fountains can be found in other squares in the city, the most famous being that of Amerikis Square.
