Seeing this little corner, one might think that it can be ignored and nothing important is missed. However, one of the best grill restaurants in the city will have been omitted. Kalligefston surprises you, not only for its rich flavours and big portions, but also for the wide range of choices. It is also a shining example which proves that quality and reasonable prices can coexist. It also proves that a traditional grill restaurant does not have to be confined to strict barriers. It can have “old-style” flavours, without excluding some modern trends. In addition to souvlaki, gyros, kebab and kontosouvli, Kalligefston has a rich menu with dozens of dishes, including some vegetarian (e.g. wrapped souvlaki without meat or halloumi pita) and vegan options (e.g. veggie burger accompanied by potatoes, pita, mustard, tomato and lettuce).
Although the city is full of grill and souvlaki restaurants, according to locals, only few of them stand out. It is an opportunity for the visitor to try the favourite traditional dish of Greeks in one of its best versions. The devoted customers of Kalligefston are not limited to Petralona, but are also found in all the surrounding areas, as they order their wrapped souvlaki only from here. Mr. Nikos (owner) and the entire staff, work at a feverish pace, mainly from the afternoon onwards, as they simultaneously serve passing and delivery customers. Kalligefston is famous for its chicken souvlaki and kontosouvli (spit- roasted pork with aromatic herbs and spices), but the customers are equally excited with the pork gyros and kebab.
