What I can see

The Mavromatis apartment building (designed by Kyriakos Kyriakidis) is a work of modernized and abstract eclecticism with Art Deco elements. Its corner is its special feature, with some architects attributing it to ancient Greek influence and others to Soviet. It is divided into three distinct parts: the base (ground floor, semi- basement), the main body (balcony and bay windows) and crown (cornice).

What I can't see

The first modernist adaptations of apartment buildings in Athens appeared in the early 30s. The eclectic tendencies of the previous period still exist, as illustrated by the Mavromatis’ apartment building. The development of apartment buildings at the centre increased with the Presidential Decree of 1934. However, after the crisis and at the end of the interwar period, the quantitative development of apartment buildings was further favoured, by following a “standard” pattern, which sought to lower the cost of construction.
