What I can see
This space, that now houses an optical store, has walls of an unusual thickness. The thickness varies from 1.50 and 1.80 metres. According to Professor Manolis Korres, this thickness is “unnatural”, and so he concluded that this is a tower of the Ottoman period. After his discovery, the embrasures were revealed.
What I can't see
According to 19th century documents, it appears that the tower had been bought by Alexandros Mavrokordatos, a politician of the Greek Revolution era. Buildings in Plaka are often mistakenly dated due to lack of research, and researchers frequently jump to conclusions based on frames and other secondary members of buildings.
