Modern and Contemporary era (1821 - )
1977 When the Margaritouli family was on holidays in Zakynthos, they noticed unusual footprints on the beaches. Until then, there had not been scientific reports on sea turtle spawning in Greece. This was the beginning for the Karetta species to be a symbol of the protection of Greek nature.
1983 The association was founded.
1994 The first rescue centre for sea turtles in the Mediterranean is established in Glyfada.
