What I can see
The Observatory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the only building of its kind in northern Greece, as it houses the Department of Astrophysics-Astronomy and Mechanics of the Department of Physics of the School of Sciences. It includes an amphitheatre, laboratories, auxiliary spaces and is a work that aesthetically balances composition and functionality. Its elegance is highlighted through the simple facades, with the vertical blinds of the main facade mitigating the horizontal perspective of the building.
What I can't see
It was designed by Patroklos Karantinos, a representative of the post-war modern movement, who pioneered the smooth and unobtrusive transition from the avant-garde of the modern movement to the post-war standardization, change of scale and application of the synthetic principles of modernism. Thus, he created buildings of gentle monumentality and landmarks that do not forcefully impose themselves on the city’s architectural landscape.
