Filikis Eterias Street

Filikis Eterias Street has different vibes than those of the rest of the city.

  1. Modern and Contemporary era (1912 - )

  2. Ottoman era (1453- 1912)

  3. Byzantine era (331 AC- 1453)

  4. Roman era (30 BC- 330 AC)

  5. Hellenistic era (322- 31 BC)

  6. Classical era (478-323 BC)

  7. Archaic era (800-479 BC)

  8. Geometric era (-1100- 800 BC)

  9. Prehistory (-1100 BC)

What I can see

Along the entire length of Filiki Eterias Street we can admire parts of the rampart of the Byzantine walls. More specifically, we can see them behind the Piraeus Bank building, behind the Municipal Library and in a building in which part of the rampart is preserved, together with part of the main wall and a triangular cantilever. It is an attractive street with direct view to the White Tower and throughout its length, there are major buildings, such as the Makedonikon, the Church of Agios Antonios, the neoclassical building of Ioannidios School (today the 40th primary school), and architecturally interesting apartment buildings, such as the complex of two buildings on the corner with A. Svolou and I. Delliou Streets. It is of modern architecture with a central ercker, balconies on each side, eclectic and art deco elements. The unique physiognomy of the street is also sealed with the alternative café-bars, ouzo taverns, a gallery, Mr. George’s fruit shop, the heavy metal record store and the musical instrument workshop.

What I can't see

It is a quieter street, at a different pace than the rest of the city.
