This eclectic two-storey tiled-roofed building with an attic is an architectural variation of older building types that were governed by symmetry, had Renaissance influences and the entrance was located in the centre of the main facade. The balconies here play a significant role in the aesthetics of the building. The roof of the balcony of the first floor is supported by rectangular pillars, while that of the second on columns with Ionic capitals. The opening to the balcony of the second floor is crowned with a pediment with Baroque influences. The side facades are morphologically simple, in contrast to the main facade, which is symmetrical and the second floor is more heavily decorated with floral themes, helices and a central pediment with Renaissance elements. The floors are morphologically separated by horizontal decorative strips, while they are vertically unified by the false pillars. The building’s L-shaped ground plan is due to later additions.
We do not know who the architect of the building was. It was built on behalf of Yankos Christos Themelis, and after changing hands with many owners, most notably the Naar brothers, it was bought by the wife of the wealthy tobacco merchant Alexandros Michaelides and then passed to their son Lazaros. The plot then reached the sea. With the new urban planning, not only was the plot limited, but the building was almost demolished. Initially, it was a single house with an internal staircase, but later the two floors became two independent houses.
