What I can see

The Museum of Contemporary Art houses approximately 2,000 works of art and a scientific library with 2,000 books. The building is modern, in the architectural spirit of the period from 1960 to 1975. At the entrance of the old pavilion, one can see the “umbrellas”, a work by Zongolopoulos (Biennale Venice 1993) and “Sculptures- Bushes” by Filolaos. The museum was created thanks to a donation of 45 works by the internationally renowned collector Alexandros Iolas and now hosts 220 engravings, all of them by Franz Geierhaas, as well as donations by other artists, such as Magda Kotzia and Alexander and Dorothea Xidi. The new wing also houses paintings, engravings, sculptures and installations by many prominent artists, such as Kostas Varotsos, Spiros Vassiliou, Giannis Gaitis, Nikos Engonopoulos, Giannis Moralis, Dimitris Mytaras, Takis, Kostas Tsoklis, Alexandros Fasianos, Andy Warhol, Pino Pascali, Marshial Rice, and others.

What I can't see

The Museum’s first home was the “Filkeram- Johnson” factory at Finikas in Eastern Thessaloniki. Apart from collections by Theophilos, Giannis Tsarouchis, Nikos Chatzikyriakos- Gikas, Alekos Fasianos, Fotis Kontoglou, Giannis Psychopedis, Giorgos Zongolopoulos, the museum hosts lectures and discussions about art.
