What I can see

The museum is housed in the port’s Storehouse A, a two-storey building made of local red brick, with iron doors typical of the industrial architecture of the early 20th century. The collection is divided chronologically into sections, that show the evolution of Greek cinema from the early 20th century to the present, and includes texts, objects and visual material (newsreels from 1910 to 1985, machinery, machine parts, photos, a classical film library), a demonstration of a film shoot. At the end of the tour, visitors are treated to a 3D film screening, the first such projection in a Greek museum. The most interesting parts of the museum are: 1) a section devoted to the Manakias brothers, the first filmmakers in the Balkans (1905), who filmed social, political and military events, 2) the establishment of the Film Festival in 1960, 3) the emergence of New Greek Cinema (1971), a new wave of filmmakers that challenged the older generation, 4) the “Hellafi” collection, the only one of its kind worldwide that features hand-drawn billboards from the city’s movie theatres.

What I can't see

Other activities of the museum include research and educational programs, aimed at the study and documentation of everything related to the art of cinema.
