What I can see
It is a building of late modernism: functional, multivalent, and without monumental dimensions. Its main volume is rectangular, and the cylindrical volume of the staircase and the visible concrete stand out. The ground floor has a translucent layout favouring the constant movement of people, and it “converses” with the north side of the square, where there is commercial activity. The ground floor is divided into two levels. In the first is the post office, while in the second is the entrance, a bank and shopping areas. On the mezzanine floor is the canteen-bar and a space for the public. The first floor houses the municipal services and the library in a perimeter layout and around a central hall. The building is crowned with the largest second floor, which includes a multipurpose room with a capacity of 250-300 people.
What I can't see
The work of the architects Giannis Dalezios, Nikos Dimitriadis, Paraskevas Liakos and Sotiris Papadopoulos was not intended to have an emblematic or monumental character, but to be harmonized in the daily life of the neighbourhood. Its strict volumes are in complete relation with the strict volumes of the workers’ residences and the church that surround it.
