What I can see

It is the second largest international film festival in the country, after Thessaloniki’s. Every September, films from around the world are screened in selected cinemas, which are venues dedicated to so-called independent cinema. It consists of 11 sections (International Competition / Panorama / Greek Short Stories / Music and Film / Documentary / Cinema on the Edge / After Midnight / Premieres / Small Premieres / Special Tributes) and 10 awards, with the Golden Athena being the highest distinction.

What I can't see

The full name of the festival is “Athens International Film Festival, Opening Nights” and takes place every September. The aim of the festival is to highlight the art of cinema and the cultural pluralism that governs it. Many widely known independent productions were first screened and awarded at the Athens Film Festival, which has over 60,000 viewers each year.
