What I can see
The mission of the History Museum of the University of Athens is the collection, documentation, preservation and showcasing of its historical memorabilia. These include portraits of professors, rare books and manuscripts, photographs, stamps, medals and the pennon of the university. The building belongs to the traditional Athenian architecture with asymmetrical axes, an enclosed balcony, loggia, vaults and wells. Its “core” section is of 17th century architecture. Opinions differ on whether architects, associates and friends Stamatis Kleanthis and Eduard Schaubert, who bought the house from its previous Turkish owner Sante Khanum, had it repaired or built anew but they definitely did not alter its original character.
What I can't see
It was in this house that the owners drafted the first urban design of the new capital, which was however not implemented. The building housed the first university of the newly-founded Greek State, until the construction of the building of the Trilogy of Athens at Panepistimiou Street. It has since been used for various purposes, such as barracks and a school, and has had several owners. Today, it is a museum of the Kapodistrian University of Athens, which hosts periodic exhibitions, conferences, lectures and projections, as well as student tours. During the summer months, concerts and plays are performed in the courtyard, under the Acropolis.
