What I can see

The building of the PPC power distribution centre has a triangular plan, as the architect Kleon Krandonellis followed the building lines in order to maintain the triangular shape of the plot. The turning of the old railway line from Lavriou Square to Attiki is today’s Rizou Street, on which there are volume projections of the building (distribution boards), that create a sculpture. The dominant materials are concrete, aluminum and glass. The building has a “new-brutalist” style and manages to combine dissimilar functional requirements. Uncoated concrete on the facades suggests the interior levels of the building, giving a dynamic shape with morphoplastic interest. The corner of the building also stands out, in which there is a glass pane, allowing natural light. Both the original building of Krandonellis and the subsequent interventions of Tombazis are governed by the rules of bioclimatic design, thus enhancing natural lighting and ventilation while giving considerable flexibility in the shaping of spaces.

What I can't see

The original building of Krantonellis, and in particular his three functional units (halls, control centre, offices), significantly influenced the modern architectural proposal of Alexandros Tombazis. The design of the building in both phases aims at strengthening a more contemporary PPC profile. Also, at the corner with the glazing, a sculpture of Zongolopoulos was designed but never implemented.
